Pediatricians

 

Pediatricians are in a unique position to catch orofacial issues early in a child's development. Early interception and diagnosis of tongue thrust, open mouth breathing, thumb sucking, nail biting, pacifier habits, lip wedging, ankylogossia (tongue tied), are critical to not only the growth and structural formation the child's face, but also to their development of self-esteem. Down Syndrome issues especially are in need of orofacial myology due to poor facial tone. Visual perception of a child with an open mouth rest posture vs. a closed mouth rest posture is tremendously different. It is wonderful there is a non-surgical option to treat OM disorders.

 

Allergic shiners related to mouth breathing, and Long Narrow Face Syndrome, attributed to deviant swallowing patterns, are just two of the results seen when issues go untreated. CCOM in conjunction with pediatricians are an intregal part of the health care team for children. Orofacial myology corrects these dysfunctions caused by imbalanced muscles. Results are often dramatic and occur in eight to twelve sessions and are sustainable over a lifetime.

 

Physicians
Physicians and other medical providers are presented with poor facial tone in patients. Fortunately orofacial myology therapy can work for patients of all ages. Orofacial myology benefits adults as well as children. Common disorders presented in the adult population include, tongue thrust issues, TMJ disorders, open mouth rest posture, chronic cheek biting, drooling, and a degeneration of facial tonality due to age. OM therapy can help establish correct tongue and rest postures at night which impact breathing patterns.
