About Orofacial Myology (OM)

Cherry Creek Orofacial Myology provides a type of therapy that works with muscles of the face, jaw lips and tongue to achieve correct growth and development. OM also corrects imbalances in muscle function which if left untreated can lead to a number of dysfunctional disorders and parafunctional habits. Common problems associated with OM disorders can be corrected. The elimination of certain behaviors are achieved through exercises performed by the patient for five minutes, three times a day. Photos and measurements are taken routinely to mark improvement. Lasting results are often dramatic and can occur within a three to four month period.

Pediatricians & OM

Orofacial Myology in conjunction with pediatricians are an intregal part of the health care team for children. OM corrects tongue thrust, open mouth breathing, thumb sucking, nail biting, pacifier habits, lip wedging, ankylogossia (tongue tied), caused by imbalanced muscles. Down Syndrome issues especially are in need of orofacial myology due to poor facial tone. Noticable results typically occur in eight to twelve sessions and are sustainable over a lifetime. Pediatricians can find out more by contacting CCOM.

Physicians & OM
Physicians and other medical providers are also presented with poor facial tone in patients. Fortunately orofacial therapy can work for patients of all ages. Common disorders seen in the adult population include but are not limited to, tongue thrust issues, Muscular TMD, open rest mouth posture, chronic cheek biting, drooling, and a degeneration of facial tonality due to age. OM therapy can help establish correct tongue and rest postures at night which impact breathing patterns. Physicians can find out more by contacting CCOM.
