Cherry Creek Orofacial Myology works in conjunction with dentists and orthodontists in the treatment and diagnosis of orofacial disorders. Mary Ruma-Smith, founder, brings 30 years of dental experience to the field of OM. It is our goal to establish correct swallowing and breathing patterns and help the patient stop such habits as thumb sucking, nail biting, chronic cheek chewing, pacifier use, and drooling. Continuance of these habits and incorrect swallowing patterns can lead to facial, palatal, and occlusal malformations. These include but are not limited to open rest mouth posture, anterior and posterior open bites, Class II and Class III occlusions, overjet, crossbites, high narrow palatal arch, TMD, chapped lips or lip wedging, limited openings, chronic cheek biting, drooling, and trouble wearing dentures. Dentists and Orthodontists can find out more by contacting CCOM.
