What is Orofacial Myology (OM)?
Simply, OM is the practice of working with the muscles of the face, jaw, lips and tongue using therapeutic methods to achieve optimum function.

 

What causes an OM Disorder?
Often it is difficult to point to one particular source as the sole cause of an orofacial myological disorder. In most cases it is the result of a combination of environmental and hereditary factors. Who can be treated and how?
Patients ranging in age from very young to mature adults can all benefit from OM therapy. A therapy program is developed for each individual depending on their specific need.

 

An Orofacial Myologist begins each session by taking measurements to track the progression of results. New exercises are learned by the patient every week. How many visits on average does it usually take?
Typically it takes between eight to twelve visits. Your first visit consists of a one hour evaluation. Each visit after the evaluation takes about thirty minutes.

 

How much time will I have to put in for the therapy to be effective?
Exercises take about five minutes three times daily. A commitment to the exercises allow results to occur in a short period of time.

 

Does my insurance cover OM therapy?
Currently there are some codes that may qualify for benefits under certain insurance policies.

 

Are there other medical or health providers involved in OM therapy?
